Grzegorz Turnau's album is called 11:11, after his favourite time of day

Grzegorz Turnau is one of Poland’s best-loved singer-songwriters and a Kraków icon: born in the city, a pianist with a soft voice and a taste for poetry, who started out as a teenager in Kraków’s legendary cabaret, Piwnica pod Baranami. In 2005 he released his tenth album, fifteen songs, most of them set to poems. The album is called 11:11, and so is the one song on it he wrote the words for himself. It is track number eleven. The album went gold.

Why that title? In a note on the album he explains it simply: 11:11 is my favourite time of day. He remembers the moment he first saw it on his first digital watch, a present from his father. He adds that he had only recently learned that some people attach magical meaning to this time, and that those who pay it special attention are said to be “lightworkers”, with a mission to gather light on our planet.

He does not say whether he believes it.
